The next group of products are called “Drone Valves”. Drone Valves regulate the air flow that passes over a drone reed. One of the problems with drones, besides keeping them in tune, is how they start and stop. That is especially important when playing in a competition-type band. How a band starts and stops could determine the outcome of the contest. The starts and stops need to be exactly together. Enter the Drone Valve. As I said above, the drone valve regulates the amount of air that flows over the drone reed. If you don’t have valves, then it is possible to get a “double tone” in the drone which isn’t very pleasing to the audience. Frankly, it is quite embarrassing for the piper as well.
The drone valves below have revolutionized bagpipe playing. If you are a relatively decent player, the valves will insure that your whole performance is good. That last thing that people remember is how the pipes made them feel and how the performance ended. All of these products are good valve products. The Shepherd Tone enhancers double as moisture control so they were on the ‘moisture control page”. I would advise you to consult with your Pipe Major/Instructor about which of these items they like and recommend. Again, I have personally used quite a few of these items and will be happy to make a recommendation if you need one.
