The Great Highland Bagpipe of Scotland
The diagram above is of the Great Highland Bagpipe of Scotland.  This instrument is probably the most popular bagpipe played today as it is not only played in Scotland and the USA but in many countries around the world.

The Great Highland Bagpipe of Scotland ranges in price from $200.00 to $10,000.00 depending on what it's made of.  Bagpipes are made of a variety of materials.  The cheapest of these materials is Rosewood, Sheesham Wood and Cocus Wood.  Instruments made of these materials are usually made by former British Occupied Territories such  as India and Pakistan.

Bagpipes actually made in Scotland, the USA or Canada are made of either African Blackwood or Poly Resin materials.  The Blackwood pipes start in price around $1000.00 USD.  The difference in prices depend on what is mounted on the pipes.  Projecting mounts, Drone Caps and Ferrules could be anything from Ivory (older pipes) to a variety of plastics to Sterling Silver.  The cost of the mountings and antique value will determine the higher cost of the pipes.

Again the only thing you need to get started is a practice chanter.  For more information about those go to our "tool page".
